What Pageantry Taught Me (You Don’t Need a Crown to Feel Like a Queen)
From Miss Friendship Puerto Rico to Mrs International Puerto Rico — what I’ve really learned from pageantry: the people, the preparation, and why you don’t need a title to carry yourself like you have one.

When people hear “pageant,” they picture the crowning moment. But after competing — and being blessed to represent Puerto Rico as Miss Friendship Puerto Rico 2025 and Mrs International Puerto Rico 2026 — I can tell you the crown is the smallest part of the story. Here’s what pageantry actually taught me.
The people are the prize
The most surprising gift of pageantry is the room. I’ve shared stages with nurses, engineers, activists, mothers, entrepreneurs — women from dozens of countries and every walk of life. Even when you don’t win, even when you leave without a sash or any superlative at all, you leave with people: mentors who critique your walk at midnight, competitors who become sisters, organizers who open doors years later. No trophy competes with that network of women who genuinely want to see you rise.
Preparation is a masterclass in yourself
Pageant prep is interview training, public speaking, fitness, styling, platform advocacy, and mindset work rolled into one. You learn to answer hard questions on camera without flinching. You learn to walk into a room like you belong, because you’ve practiced belonging. Those skills booked me acting and brand work long after the pageant weekend ended — it’s the best professional development program nobody talks about.
You don’t need to be a pageant queen to feel like one
Here’s the real secret: the queens you admire built the feeling before the title. It’s posture and preparation. It’s speaking about yourself with respect. It’s doing your hair for a Tuesday, keeping promises to yourself, serving your community without a sash telling you to. The crown doesn’t create that woman — it just recognizes her. Which means you can start being her today, no entry fee required.
If you’re thinking about competing: do it for the becoming, not the winning. Losing with the right mindset will still hand you confidence, community, and a masterclass in yourself — and honestly, that’s the crown.
